My experience with UCCF was excellent from start to finish. I was privileged to work with the dedicated, caring, and supportive supervisors, staff, and interns of UCCF, and to make a genuine difference for children and families who are seen at the Center. I felt that the whole orientation of UCCF was respectful, warm, and professional with a genuine interest in delivering the highest caliber services and in providing the best and broadest training experience.

Social Work students have always been a valued part of the multi-disciplinary UCCF team.

The Center is an open, inviting, collegial atmosphere, where Social Work practicum students have:

  • Weekly, interactive seminars on a variety of practice topics, presented by experts in the topic areas.
  • An integrated practice model, drawing on multiple theoretical approaches to conceptualize the issues facing children and families.
  • An evidence based practice approach, using outcome measurements and evidence based treatment techniques to inform treatment planning that is customized to the needs of children and families.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of types of clinical cases, through direct practice and case presentations by other interns.
  • Two types of weekly supervision, including an hour and a half of individual supervision by an experienced LMSW, and an hour and a half of small group supervision, either by an experienced LMSW or Licensed Psychologist.
  • Weekly group discussions, including all interns and supervisors, for case disposition and special topics such as specific conditions, ethical considerations, and multi-cultural considerations.
  • Access to special expertise in weekly group case dispositions and for consultation, including a child psychiatrist, educational specialist, and neuro-psychologist.
  • Opportunities to practice in settings other than individual and family therapy, including facilitating manualized group therapy for social skills and mother-daughter workshops to address relational aggression, as well as parent support groups for parents of children with ADHD and parenting education for families affected by divorce.
  • Exposure to community outreach programs, including community lectures by experts from UCCF, as well as programs that are partnerships with other community organizations.
