Social Skills Groups are designed to help children learn skills that are important in establishing relationships and maintaining positive social interactions with peers. The groups are appropriate from elementary through middle school-age children who could benefit from assistance in building and maintaining friendships, including children with learning and attention difficulties.
Children discuss ways of joining groups, dealing with bullying, learning to compromise, make new friends and to be assertive. They practice new skills through role-plays, games, and cooperative activities. Group leaders act as coaches as they help participants practice new skills.
