Adjustment Matters: Community Forum Series

The Adjustment Matters Community Forum Series runs from September through June. The series is designed to educate and inform about a range of topics related to mental health, learning, and communication difficulties. There will be ample opportunity for questions and discussion with our presenters.

The Adjustment Matters events will be held in convenient venues in the community. AnnArbor.com, Borders, Bryant Community Center and Washtenaw Community College are hosting our fall lectures.

Social Skills Groups
New Groups forming in October.

Social Skills Groups are designed to help children learn skills that are important in establishing relationships and maintaining positive social interactions with peers. The groups are appropriate from elementary through middle school-age children who could benefit from assistance in building and maintaining friendships, including children with learning and attention difficulties.

This group will meet for 11 weekly sessions from 6:30-7:45 pm. Registration is required. Group costs are $440 for the series of 11 sessions. These may be reimbursable by some insurances. Call us to find out.

ADHD & Learning Disabilities Parent Education Group
New group begins on October 14

The Parent Education Group seeks to provide parents with practical information about Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder and Learning Disabilities, and to help with the challenges their families face. Additionally, the group offers participants an opportunity to share ideas, resources, and support with other parents dealing with similar sets of issues. The group is appropriate for parents of children in elementary through high school who have been diagnosed with ADHD and/or a learning disability. Group leaders deliver brief lectures, provide new tools, and facilitate parental discussion and mutual problem solving.

Parenting through Separation & Divorce Workshops
An approved alternative to the SMILE program

All parents are concerned about the well-being of their children as they face the challenges of separation and divorce. This workshop helps parents understand their children's needs at this time, and offers specific suggestions for creating the most beneficial post-divorce parenting relationships.

This presentation is an approved alternative to the SMILE program presented by the Friend of The Court.

Psychoeducational Evaluations

Psychoeducational evaluations include a review of the child's educational and relevant medical records. A comprehensive assessment is developed which is tailored to each individual child. A report on the findings, specific recommendations and a feedback session are also provided.

Consultation with teachers, attendance at educational meetings and follow-up meetings with the parents and school can also be arranged.

Strong Moms Strong Girls
Figuring Out Friendships Mother-Daughter Workshops

Intended for girls in grades 4-7 with their mother, guardian or female companion, these workshops are fun, hands-on and interactive, with breakout sessions for girls, moms and both!

Goals of the Workshop:

  • Empower girls to stand up for themselves and peers
  • Increase understanding in adult women of girl's social world
  • Encourage positive alliances among girls and women
  • Model healthy ways for girls to handle conflict and cope with stress
  • Promote communication among peers and family members
  • Discuss media interpretations of girls and women
